Personal Passions

As you can see from the pictures since 2024 my passions have taken a new shape but at there core are the same as they always were.

I am a passionate Dad who can’t wait to show my little team mate the world. I love the outdoors and having taken the choice to go to compressed hours so I can have a day with Mia. On a Wednesday Mia and I go exploring our local area on #WalkieWednesdays.

I also volunteer with Scouts and the BMC. In Scouts my role is on paper is Deputy Lead Volunteer for Transition in Cardiff East. My role has kind of spread to be a bit of a Swiss arm knife of support to groups in the district. This support ranges from helping transition into new ways of volunteering, using new digital systems, recruitment and governance support. I have been a Scout well since I went on my first camp at 3 months old, and well I loved it and still do. I have made so many friends and learnt so much that I keep going back.

For the BMC (British Mountaineering Council), I volunteer as the South Wales Area Youth coordinator where I predominantly support the Youth Climbing Series. I am also working on a project to better support Competitive Climbing in Wales.

Professional Passion

My professional experience has taken a path through many sectors. I have always been encouraged to work and it started with a lawn mowing round in school, transitioned into working at the local climbing centre then spanning into other extreme activities whilst at University. I say extreme I was a team leader at a trampoline park and a White Water Rafting Guide.
I went to Cardiff Met University where I studied Performance Analysis in Sport. I developed a grounding in sports sciences, with a clear focus on analysis. It was here I jumped on the opportunity to work with the Hockey team where I worked as an analyst a role which moved from volunteer to professional following the completion of my degree. It was a time filled with time motion analysis and big data that spills out of it. I learnt skills in understanding new tech and the real skill of learning to learn. It was from here I learnt to code and fundamental skills in computer science.
Following graduating I seemed to make a good enough impression that my colleges wanted me to stay around. I joined the teaching team as senior technician where I supported practical sessions, maintained and developed the equipment, this was through both maintaining computers and camera equipment as well as managing a budget and developing a network of IP cameras to empower analysis. Along side my academic responsibilities we also took on a number of consultancies for a number of external sports teams and projects. One of the most memorable being the 1:59 project, which is a story I am happy to share. As much as I loved my time at the university I felt a need to move on to the wider world to see where my skills could take me.
It was from here I took a jump into the world of Ecommerce. I joined a small business and took on all the IT and Technical responsibilities of the business. This went from trivial tech issues in the small team to developing and re-platforming the store. I undertook a complete analysis of the webspace and identified issues that once corrected increased revenue over night. It helps to being able go to the check out on android devices. The real trick was to remove the complication out of the process and help the owner feel more in control.
Whilst I was there the world experienced a pretty big shake up, thank you COVID. It drew me to want to do my bit so I am currently working Digital Health Care Wales part of NHS Wales. I started off working for Value in Health using data to find the best value for patients and the service. Now I have moved into organisational performance where we are trying to support the service through inciteful performance management. This has involved me developing a number of training sessions and clearing up tools to help teams and organisations find paths to achieving there goals.
